As a writer of science fiction with environmental themes and an active environmental justice advocate working at an Environmental NGO in Washington, DC, I bring an array of knowledge and experience in professional, creative, and academic settings.
MY CREDENTIALS:
My name is Diego Tovar (He/Him/His), and I'm from Austin, Texas. I graduated from Colorado State University, earning a bachelor's degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability with a minor in Political Communication. I was a National Udall Scholar class of 2021. I received my master's in Global Environmental Policy from American University and now work for the Rachel Carson Council.
I'm a self-published writer of The Ascendants, The Ascendants: Empire of Ruin, The Red Siege, Tell it to the Tombs, The Man on the Ring trilogy, and The Wrath that Waits. In addition, my environmental opinion pieces have been published in prominent sources such as The Washington Post and the Austin-American Statesman. As someone who is passionate about combining fiction with environmentalism, my experiences in the White House, Indigenous government, Congress, the EPA, and Environmental NGO spaces have helped shape a foundation of environmentalism centered through justice.
My work on a daily involves visiting universities and sharing the importance of community engagement in the creation of sustainable and just action. Whether this be sharing justice-oriented documents I've gotten published in policy spaces, sharing research, or giving talks on how fictional writing can be an avenue for environmentalism, I am here to serve the people!
I specialize in the intersections of environmentalism, justice, and storytelling. Book me to talk with student groups, meet one-on-one, talk to professionals, or share with writers.
